Well I did get that dress finished on time, we were going out at 6.45 and I remembered I still had a hook and eye to sew on at 6.35!!!! (as you do). I had bought the fabric weeks ago, making sure I had plenty of time to make it in advance. Life obviously had a few other ideas lined up for any spare time that was heading my way, you all know what that is like. So when I found I had nearly a whole day with nothing in it I decided to set to and get sewing, all went really well until the first point of the try on with zip in situ. When I bought the fabric the only zip which matched perfectly in colour was about 1" too short but as the dress was strappy I felt that would not be an issue. So I squiggled my way into it avoiding serious eye injuries from the pins, checked in the mirror then asked for a second opinion from Tim and decided I could carry on and finish it. That was until I couldn't get out of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By this point the dress which is full length is up over my head and I am running round the house trying to find Tim to help, I was getting hotter and hotter, and more sweaty,thinking that any minute I would need a paper bag to avoid a panic attack. If you think I am making a fuss try it, requirements are: arms fully extended above head, pulling dress up and over as you go then bend forwards restricting full inflation of your lungs.
Anyway I was safely removed from the offending article. I lowered the zip and decided to put on a hook and eye, as I mentioned earlier I forgot about that until the last minute.
The big night arrived, I had managed to get shoes to match at a bargain price and a bag which had also been reduced. Do I sound tight or what ?????????
The day had been very overcast but the afternoon brightened up beautifully and we sat in the garden for a cup of tea before we got ready to go out, then the heavens opened as they are very good at doing this year, which meant for me to get to the car and the out at the other end and through a field to the event, I needed to wear other more appropriate foot attire. Does that make me vain or practical? Although my shoes hadn't cost that much I still didn't want them to look like this...
A few of you said they wanted to see the dress, so hear it is including alternative footwear, standing in water. These came in very useful for the trip from the car and for those essential trips that ladies need to make during an evening out.
Whilst I was standing in the queue for the small pink porta loo a few other women said they wished they had done the same but weren't allowed. Tim fortunately wasn't too proud to take "wellie woman" out for the night.
Also at the last minute I have managed to complete my letters for the inchie A-Z swap, I really enjoy making these little things. I nearly had to go in the envelope with them as this time I used super glue to make sure nothing fell off in the post. Unlike PVA which just peels off when it's dry, super glue peels off taking a layer of your skin with it, UGH!!!!
