Am I stupid or what????

This looks like a piece of harmless kitchen equipment, the friend of many a housewife, but beware it can humiliate you and strip you of any street cred!!!!!!!!

Picture the scene, reasonably early on a Sunday morning, lovely husband always gets out of bed approx 7am for long cycle ride with friends, this is the one morning of the week I don't get a cup of tea in bed. Having lived alone for 10 years this is something I appreciate every day (except Sundays of course). So I trot off downstairs a little bleary eyed and thirsty to make myself a drink, first job is to empty dishwasher and get a clean mug. On doing this I noticed the mug wasn't particularly clean at all considering I had set the dishwasher to run as I went off to bed the night before. On closer inspection I noticed the bottom of the machine was full of dirty water, UGH! So without a second thought on went the rubber gloves, I rolled up the sleeves of my dressing gown removed the lower tray full of dishes and I plunged in to try and pull out whatever it was that must be blocking the filter, then emptied out the water with a cup and bucket. No luck. Next mission was to empty the waste under the sink, the problem was surely there. Here I came across difficulties as the last person to replace the waste was a male, therefore it was screwed on tightly. Not to be beaten I went off to the garage for a suitable wrench. Waste unscrewed and emptied and still no solution. Next job then was to pull offending dishwasher away from the wall plus the unit to get in behind it to milk the drainage pipe............. still no solution. So 1 hour later and still no cup of tea I have to admit defeat until Tim returns home. I clear up the disaster zone as much as possible before I head off for a shower. The last thing I do is close the dishwasher door and to my dismay I notice the programme was only half way through and obviously it had been opened mid cycle the night before. Why did I not check that first !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So beware of those kitchen items you think are your friends.

Weird and Wonderful things

I have been tagged by Wendy to list 6 weird things about myself, obviously this will take some thinking about as there can't possibly be anything weird about me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moving on to wonderful things, we had a lovely day on Friday for Lucy's graduation. A very long day travelling but worth every minute. She wore a smile from ear to ear all day. It was one of those days where you feel so proud but mostly so thrilled for your child to have achieved so much. Lucy was delighted to be reunited with her uni friends, I know she really misses them. We left her late in the afternoon to have the rest of the weekend enjoying herself.

Just before Christmas I was also fortunate enough to be invited to our nephews passing out parade at Sandhurst. Such a wonderful occasion and like Lucy's graduation, brought tears to my eyes. I feel it is so sad that young people today seem to have such a bad reputation, because the young men and women I met and spoke to at this parade and Lucy's graduation were polite energetic and full of life, which is how it should be when they have so many wonderful times that lay ahead of them.

I wish the very best of luck to these two as they set off in their chosen careers.
My final wonderful thing arrived by post this week. I haven't thanked the person who sent it properly yet due to a busy week. I bought this from Julies etsy shop and I am thrilled with it, so go there and look and her creative talents.

Time for the weird list:

1. When I am using my sewing machine I only ever have one shoe on, as I feel I have better control over the foot pedal with a bare foot.

2. I iron underwear.

3. I love eating uncooked pastry.

4. I get very excited when I see the first bright green astrantia leaf pop through the ground in spring, then i have to ring my gardening buddy and tell her.

5. I love watching washing in the machine when it reaches the soapy stage. ( white wash only)

6. I love the smell of hot water bottles.

2007 is well underway

It seems like absolutely ages since I have posted, I'm not sure I can remember what to do. I am not going to make any excuses, I just haven't done it. Maybe it is too late to wish you all a Happy new year but as the saying goes " better late than never". January seems to be flying past which I don't mind as it is my least favourite month.
I have been busy working, decorating a bedroom and en-suite, and making the cushion covers and curtains etc to complete the rooms. I really enjoyed it, the couple were a delight to work for and it is always lovely to see a room transform. They had chosen a fabric from the Cath Kidston range and I must say  (not that Cath needs any promotion) the fabric was very pleasant to work with and hangs really well.


This job has spurred me into action now and this weekend I will be clearing out our lounge so that I can redecorate in there. At the moment it holds the "worst room of the house award"

I am never a great one for new years resolutions but I try to make one or two that could be achievable. I always feel I have room for improvement, so one resolution is to be nicer as a person, and the other is to seriously consider every opportunity that comes my way, before I say no to it. A wonderful opportunity to visit another country, has already been suggested by 2 people quite unexpectedly. Normally I would find a reason why not to do this, but I talked to Tim about it and in his usual positive manner said " go for it " so I am going to. I will put more details on here as the plan progresses.

This post is a bit all over the place, hopefully I will get back into the swing of things soon.
